What is women’s health?

Women’s health is a branch of medicine that focuses on female health concerns and milestones.

As women age, they experience many physical and emotional changes that men typically don’t, such as menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. Partnering with a women’s health provider you can trust to care for your needs can ease your health anxiety.

What health concerns do women face?

Women experience numerous health concerns as they get older, such as:

  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Irregular periods
  • Pelvic pain
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Endometriosis
  • Menopause

Certain infections and chronic diseases, like urinary tract infections (UTIs) and osteoporosis, do occur in men but are far more common in women. Some cancers are also exclusive to or more common in women than men, such as breast, ovarian, uterine, and endometrial cancer.

What does women’s health include?

Revolution Health offers a broad range of women’s health care services, such as:

Pelvic exam

A pelvic exam allows your women’s health care provider to view your pelvis, uterus, cervix, vagina, vulva, and rectum to detect abnormalities and monitor your reproductive health.

Pap smear

A Pap smear tests for abnormal cervical cells to prevent cervical cancer. The test involves swabbing cervical cells inside your cervix. Revolution Health then sends your sample to an outside lab for testing.

STD testing

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, are common in men and women. However, women are more likely to experience long-term health complications from STDs.

Contraception counseling

Contraception prevents you from getting pregnant. With many forms of birth control to choose from, Katie will discuss your options and help narrow down the best methods for you. Revolution Health offers oral contraceptives (birth control pills), intrauterine devices (IUDs), and IUD removal for women hoping to switch or stop using contraceptives.

After your exam, you may need a referral to an OB/GYN. Katie and the team can help coordinate your referral, so you can book your appointment.

Pelvic pain evaluation

If you experience pelvic or lower abdominal pain, Katie may perform a pelvic exam. Should your provider determine you need an imaging test, like an ultrasound, there’s an imaging center conveniently located downstairs in the same building.

Pregnancy testing

Revolution Health offers in-office urine pregnancy testing. The team can also perform blood draws at the office and send the sample to LabCorp® or Quest® for testing.
