Primary care is the foundation of the health care system. Your PCP (primary care provider) is your typically your point of contact for all of your health care needs.
Everyone should have routine visits with their PCP for a annual physical that typically consists of monitoring your weight, checking your blood pressure and general bloodwork for examination of your overall health. Based on findings of your bloodwork, your provider will make recommendations for additional testing, imaging or referrals to specialists, as necessary. Your PCP may also conduct various screenings and make referrals for additional testing, as per industry guidelines for your age or gender.
